3 Reasons Why You Should Calorie Count To Lose Weight

Writer: Tom BurridgeTom Burridge

calorie counting

For any weight loss diet to be successful it needs to contain one major component....CALORIE DEFICIT. This is where you provide your body with less energy then your body requires to maintain your current weight, resulting in your body breaking down your fat stores for energy.

Here are three reasons why calorie counting is the best way to achieve a calorie deficit.

1) Science

Calorie counting eliminates the guessing game and allows you to work with science. Unlike other diets where you are asked to count syns or points and by some chance hope you are in a deficit, tracking your calories shows you the numbers. We can have a good idea how many calories our body requires a day by working out our BMR (basal metabolic rate) and TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). I know what you are thinking, 'this all sounds rather complicated', 'I don't have time for this'. Luckily this doesn't need to be complicated or time consuming because you find what your calorie goal should be in seconds with my free online calorie calculator.

2) Education

By tracking your food you will begin to educate yourself about how many calories in certain foods and this will allow you to make smart choices. You will find yourself only eating two biscuits instead of four because you realise how high in calories your favourite biscuit is. You will begin finding alternatives to certain foods you eat because you don't think they are worth the calories and you find a lower alternative.

3) Freedom

There is no food, drink or meal out of reach with calorie counting unlike any other diet. As long as you track it, you can eat or drink it! You are aware how many calories this particular food/drink is and how you can then make it fit into your calorie goal. No longer do you need to eat your favourite takeaway, use up all your syns becoming frustrated, depressed and resulting in you going on even more of a binge! There is no such thing as 'good' and 'bad' food, however some foods are more nutritional then others. These foods offer more health benefits and are very important part of our diet but do not offer any magical powers when it comes to weight loss. A calorie is still a calorie. With calorie counting you can still eat your favourite foods, have a social life and lose weight!

Understanding why you aiming for a certain amount of calories, continually improving your self awareness of food every day and no longer feeling restricted in what you can eat / drink makes calories counting the most relatable and accountable diet! You are provided with a long term solution, allowing you to finally achieve your weight loss goal.
